Raghavi Bhoopathy

Raghavi Bhoopathy is currently pursuing PhD in Photovoltaic Engineering in University of New South Wales, Sydney. Her research area is advanced characterization of photovoltaic modules using photoluminescence. Operation of photovoltaic systems in the most economical way requires monitoring the modules’ performance to ensure that the maximum power output is obtained. Existing methods for field inspection have limited capability of detecting various electronic defects that can, however, be identified with luminescence-based methods.

Raghavi has developed a novel contactless method to identify defects in solar modules in the field using photoluminescence imaging. This method is an efficient way to inspect large solar farms within a short span of time without changing any wiring conditions. She is also working on extraction of implied current-voltage characteristics of individual cells in a fully assembled module. She has an M.S. by research degree on wave energy conversion from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras.
